We have nice color documentary pohotographs about life in Ukraine thanks to the project Kontrasty Ukrajiny. We offer them to interested schools, libraries, companies and other institutions. The author of the pics is Miroslav Hodeček - an employee of the Humanitarian Aid and Development Cooperation centre DCHOO and a professional photographer. He took the photos during field and personal trips to Ukraine.

Abstract:

A huge country with rich history, colourful culture, picturesque towns, mountains and sea, Ukraine is the country of the famous writer Schevchenko and delicious borsch, which is too often mistakenly considered to originate in Russia. Another less known fact is also that one of the world´s oldest cultures, known as Tripol, comes from Ukraine. The remains of Tripol were found at the end of the 19th century by Czech archaeologist Čeněk Chvojka.

Ukraine is commonly known as one of the poorest countries and it undoubtedly struggles with serious economic and political issues. In the Czech Republic its colourfulness and diversity are unfortunately not infrequently overshadowed by stereotypes and misleading ideas regarding its inhabitants, despite historical and cultural proximity to the Czech Republic. Ukraine is much more than Nikola Šuhaj, bad roads, and illegal workers in Czech factories.

In the images on display, you can see for example the portrait of the Greek-catholic priest, a writer of icons from one of the mountain villages.  Among other pictures you can see the beauty of the Ukrainian Carpathians, the centre of the harbour town Odessa or the capital Kiev. Exhibited are also pictures from an elderly home in Ovruch, a children´s home in Ivano-Frankivsk, the historical fortress Kamenec Podilskyj and many others.
