House of peaceful aging

In 2005 the conversion of the former community centre into a Home of Peaceful Aging was completed in the mountain village of Ust Chorna in Zakarpattia region in Ukraine. The Mother Superior of the local religious community was put in charge there. The running of the Home provides employment to six attendants living in the same village. The Home provides the elderly with permanent accommodation with comprehensive care, including food, cleaning, laundry, assistance with personal hygiene and necessary nursing activities. The Home also has its own nurse.

The social life of the clients is not neglected either, which is why they are allowed to attend various social events (the St. Nicholas Present-Giving Event, pre-Christmas get-togethers, fairs, etc.). The capacity of the home is 20 beds and there is great interest in staying there.

Funds for running the Home are partly raised from payments made by the resident clients. The Home is also supported from a joint fund of the Distant Adoption and Dignified Life projects and from the Three Kings Collection of Caritas Czech Republic. Other incomes are made up of voluntary donations. Volunteers from the Czech Republic participated in the construction of the Home and the outdoor improvements to a considerable degree.

In 2010 the Home was transferred under our main Ukrainian partner in Zakarpattia – the Greek Catholic Caritas Tiachiv. In recent years, extensive reconstruction of the building has been taking place and the capacity of the Home has been increased.

Through your financial contribution you will support all elders and disabled living in the House. (This is not about helping a specific elder). You can donate to our transparent bank account2800779701/2010 (Fio bank, Nadrazni 39, 702 00 Ostrava), VS 888 – House of peaceful aging Ust Corna.
